"BE THOU MY VISION" ALWAYS!

This old Irish Hymn is a favourite of mine. It is also a beautiful prayer. Our Patron, St David Lewis, may never even have heard of the hymn. By laying down his life for his faith and the Mass, the martyr showed that Christ certainly was his vision and Lord of his heart. There are many versions of this lovely hymn. Some are beautiful and some not so beautiful. It took me ages to choose from the many nice ones available so I hope you approve of my choice. May Christ be our vision, always and in all ways!

  2. This sounds like "Lord of all Hopefulness" our school hymn which we sang often at Assembly. Brings back memories. Thanx for posting it.

I've replied to your comments about Father Francis on my Blog.

    God bless.

  3. Hi Victor
Yes, it sounds very like Lord of All Hopefulness. To my totally unmusical ear, they both sounded like the same tune. However, my last parish priest, who was very musical, pointed out where it was different. I can spot it now - just about! Anyway, they are two lovely old hymns, of Irish origin, I believe, and I love them both. God bless you.

  5. This is one of my favorite hymns. Listening to the words always makes me imagine a soul reachin out longingly toward God, and God reaching back. I have never heard this particular version, and it is so lovely! Thank you so much for posting it! I hope you have a very blessed week, Breadgirl!

  6. Yes, a lovely hymn. I agree that I think both Lord of All Hopefulness and Be Thou My Vision are usually sung to the same tune. A beautiful melody and the words to both hymns are also very moving.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I have visited before and in fact sent a link to your blog to a Welsh friend of ours who is involved in organising a walking pilgrimage in Wales this year so you may well have a few more visitors - I hope so.

  9. Hello Miss Ellen E
Thank you for your interest and support. I love both of those hymns, too. Both are moving and inspirational. Thanks for passing on a link to your Welsh friend. If they are doing Welsh holy sites, they might like to visit some of the sites associated with St David Lewis, e.g. Llantarnam where he was arrested, Usk where he was martyred and is buried. They can find lots of details in various posts on this blog but if they want, I would be more than happy to send information directly to them. God bless you, Miss Ellen E.

  10. Hello Sadie
Thanks for looking in. Yes, the two hymns are very popular ones. I know they are two of my favourites. There are so many renditions of 'Be Thou My Vision' that I had difficulty picking one to post. Therefore, I am glad you enjoyed the one that I did post. God bless you.
